I have been building residential basketball courts for several years now. I do it for my friends and relatives who would like to have a court where they can practice their shots anytime that they want to. Whenever I build a court I make sure that I use the best basketball hoop for the home. Lately however it is becoming more difficult for me to identify the top basketball system for residential use because there are so many choices that are available in the market. Let me write down here what I think about each hoop type that is commonly used today.
In-Ground Basketball Hoop
Most people will agree that in-ground basketball systems are the most stable of all hoop types because their base is planted in the ground. The biggest issue with an in-ground that makes it less ideal for residential use is that they need a lot of space. One has to allot some space for its base that will be dedicated to that purpose.
Portable Basketball Hoop
This is a great choice for homeowners whose property is not that large. They can set up a portable hoop on the driveway and the cool thing is that it can be taken down and removed in no time at all. The problem with portables is that they are not very stable especially the light ones which can be shaken by moderate winds.
Mounted Basketball Hoop
The mounted hoop type is installed on a wall or any existing structure. Because of the way that it is set up, a mounted system is also very stable like an in-ground. It is also the most affordable of all the major hoop types since it does not have a supporting pole or a base. Normally it is just made up of the rim and the backboard.
In my opinion the best hoop type for home use is the portable because it is perfect for backyards that have limited space, but the stability problem can pose a safety issue.
